Empowering Tomorrow’s Entrepreneurs:
A Success Story by RBFCU’s Financial Literacy Team

LIVE OAK, Texas (April 12, 2024) — RBFCU’s Financial Literacy Department has competed a groundbreaking initiative that has impacted students and families in Comal Independent School District. The Financial Literacy Team of Jennifer Crawford and Michelle Herrera worked with every fourth-grade class in Comal ISD from October 2023 to March 2024 to stress the fundamentals of personal finance and entrepreneurship — and to apply what they learned.

Venturing into 20 elementary school campuses, Crawford and Herrera delivered 83 engaging financial literacy presentations, reaching a total of 1,931 eager young minds. The lessons focused on spending, saving, sharing and entrepreneurship.

Because of the wide reach and success of this program, RBFCU was recognized as first place in the Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award. RBFCU is the Cornerstone Credit Union League’s pick as first-place in the Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award, and in April will be considered for America’s Credit Unions (CUNA) national recognition tied to this initiative by our Financial Literacy Team.

The culmination of this educational journey was marked by the district wide entrepreneur expo on March 26, where students from Comal ISD showcased their innovative “Texas Treasures” products inspired by the lessons learned. Judges, impressed by the students’ creativity and dedication, awarded prizes in categories such as Most Creative, Mose Eco-Friendly and Presentation Skills, sponsored generously by RBFCU.

Through this collaborative effort, the Financial Literacy Department imparted crucial financial information and instilled a spirit of entrepreneurship among the Comal students. The impact of their work promises a future generation of financially savvy and empowered individuals ready to navigate the world of finance with confidence and foresight.
