RBFCU Announces New Leadership Appointments to Highlight Opening Months of 2024
Berenice Villarreal, Zachary Crews, Blake Lyons, Brian Munsterteiger and Salvador Guerrero set to take on new roles in executive and senior positions
LIVE OAK, Texas (Feb. 23, 2024) — Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union (RBFCU) is proud to announce the promotion of five talented individuals to new leadership roles as part of the organization’s strategic growth plan. The RBFCU Executive Team will expand by naming Berenice Villarreal and Zachary Crews as executive vice presidents. Blake Lyons and Brian Munsterteiger have been named senior vice presidents, and Salvador Guerrero has been promoted to vice president.
With these appointments, RBFCU aims to capitalize on its team’s collective knowledge and vision, driving the company toward new heights of success and innovation on behalf of its members.
These promotions from within RBFCU are being made as Christopher W. O’Connor has announced his retirement from his role as President/CEO. O’Connor will be CEO through mid-March 2024 and Mark Sekula has been named President (Sekula will be President/CEO in mid-March).
“As we move forward under my leadership, I want RBFCU to continue growing as it has under Chris,” said Sekula. “To aid in this objective, I am pleased to announce these promotions. Each of these candidates has years of experience and has gone above and beyond in demonstrating their prowess and readiness for these next levels. RBFCU’s leadership team will continue to be an asset for our members and employees.”
Effective immediately, Villarreal is Executive Vice President-Chief Risk Officer, and Crews is Executive Vice President-Chief Financial Officer. Lyons is Senior Vice President-Marketing and Business Development, and Munsterteiger is Senior Vice President-Enterprise Fraud Management. Guerrero is Vice President-Corporate Communications and Public Relations.
Meet Our Newest Executive and Senior Leaders
Berenice Villarreal joined RBFCU in 2006 as a manager in Internal Audit and has held leadership roles in the Business Services, Payments and Consumer Lending and most recently as Senior Vice President, Chief Risk Officer.
She is a graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio, earning a bachelor’s in business administration with concentrations in accounting and finance.
Zachary Crews started at the credit union in August 2017 as Asset and Liability Management (ALM) & Investments Director. In his most recent role as Senior Vice President of Finance at RBFCU, Crews led the Finance Department in the critical roles of stress testing and ALM.
Crews is a graduate of the University of Northern Colorado and holds a master’s in finance from Creighton University in Omaha, Neb.
Blake Lyons became a part of the RBFCU Marketing Department more than 15 years ago. In his most recent role as Vice President, Lyons launched initiatives that helped RBFCU surpass the 1 million members mark and become one of the largest credit unions in the country.
Lyons is a graduate of Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. He holds a degree in business administration with a major in marketing.
Brian Munsterteiger, a Certified Fraud Examiner, celebrated his 20th year at RBFCU in 2023. He was fraud manager and worked in card services and Online Operations at RBFCU before he became Payment Services Director. Four years ago, Munsterteiger was promoted to vice president to lead the Enterprise Fraud Management Department. He was a key contributor to the conversions of our credit card and debit card platforms in 2022-23. Enterprise Fraud Management identifies and mitigates potential fraud issues while analyzing and reporting on the credit union’s overall fraud prevention management and payment card fraud.
Munsterteiger is a graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio and holds a degree in management.
Salvador Guerrero is a former journalist who began work at RBFCU as a communications specialist in 2016. He progressed to manager and assistant vice president after leading the redevelopment of rbfcu.org and revitalizing RBFCU’s Political Action Committee. His team created a public relations presence within our service areas, as well as expanding efforts to reach hundreds of thousands of people on social media.
Guerrero is a graduate of the UTEP and holds a degree in journalism.
