RBFCU President/CEO Mark Sekula Receives Recognition for Executive Leadership
Sekula is one of 20 local executives named in the San Antonio Business Journal’s C-Suite Awards
LIVE OAK, Texas (Sept. 5, 2024) — Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union’s Mark Sekula has been named as a CEO honoree in the 2024 San Antonio Business Journal C-Suite Awards, joining other names at Texas’ largest credit union for outstanding direction and vision.
RBFCU Executive Vice President-Chief Operating Officer Sonya McDonald earlier this year was named by the Business Journal in its Women’s Leadership Awards. Chris O’Connor, RBFCU’s previous President/CEO, was honored in the C-Suite Awards in 2019.
The honorees were featured on stage, where Sekula shared insight about his future goals for RBFCU and ideas for employee recruitment and retention.
Mark Sekula was named RBFCU President/CEO in November 2023 and officially assumed the role in mid-March 2024.
“Mark is steady and reliable, and his deep experience at RBFCU has given him a firm understanding of our employees and members,” said Edward Polansky, RBFCU Board of Directors Chair. “When Mr. O’Connor was promoted to President/CEO, he chose Mark to join the executive team in 2011. Mark gives an all-out commitment to RBFCU’s culture. He starts with how we do the right thing and everything else that flows from that — to be a trusted financial partner for our members. He works at moving along the great ideas that come from employees and our members and he does this by transparently reporting the progress, or where improvement and development is needed.”
While Sekula’s tenure as President/CEO is still new, he has devoted almost two and half decades of outstanding service to RBFCU. Sekula originally came to RBFCU in 2000 as vice president of the Consumer Lending department, and he’s been a senior vice president for both the Consumer Lending and Business Services departments. Sekula was elevated to an Executive Vice President position at RBFCU in 2011, and he served in roles as Chief Lending Officer and Chief Operating Officer. He served as EVP-Chief Financial Officer since January 2019 until his CEO promotion. Under his leadership as EVP/CFO, RBFCU grew to become the largest credit union based in Texas, a testament to his strategic vision and management skills.
He and his wife have been active with the Battered Women and Children’s Shelter of San Antonio and have assisted in fundraising efforts. This personal and community involvement shows that the Sekula family takes to heart the credit union value of “people helping people.” He and his wife have four children.
