RBFCU Steps Up Involvement with Business Students at Texas State University

LIVE OAK, Texas (Feb. 5, 2025) — RBFCU’s commitment to education in our communities has been bolstered by a $125,000 contribution to the McCoy College’s Center for Banking and Financial Services at Texas State University. School officials greeted this commitment by stating “The generous contribution represents (RBFCU’s) collaborative efforts with the college and supports the banking center’s mission to bridge the gap between academic learning and evolving industry demands.”

RBFCU President/CEO Mark Sekula donates to Texas State 2025

As RBFCU has done for years in association with McCoy College programs, we Go Beyond Banking by spending our time as well as our direct funding. Our credit union leaders have served as expert presenters at Texas State, and President/CEO Mark Sekula will serve on McCoy’s Center for Banking and Financial Services advisory council. Mark said the contribution reflects RBFCU’s longstanding service to San Marcos and education throughout the region.

“It starts with RBFCU’s core values, that ‘we do the right thing’ and we strive to improve the communities we serve,” Mark said. “Texas State University and the surrounding San Marcos community is in the heart of the RBFCU service territory. The success of Texas State University contributes to RBFCU’s membership, talented employees, and leaders.”

Mark was joined in a photo opportunity to announce RBFCU’s involvement by Business Development Regional Director Marisa Coon and BD Officer Marissa Garcia.

Launched in fall 2023, the center “offers important insights into the commercial banking industry including resources,” according to the center’s website. This partnership will allow RBFCU to join as a real-world educational resource with influential FinTechs (Austin-based Q2 is involved) and regional banks.

“We’re very excited to have CEO Mark Sekula, a Texas State McCoy College of Business alumnus, join our Advisory Council,” said Jimmy Allen, director of Texas State’s Center for Banking and Financial Services and lecturer in McCoy College’s Department of Finance and Economics.

The center’s mission is to serve as a leading resource in developing the next generation of leaders for the banking and financial services industries, empowering them with the expertise, skills, and ethical foundation necessary to navigate and shape the future of finance.

The center’s curriculum features two core finance and economics courses in the fall — Commercial Bank Management and Commercial Credit Analysis — and three spring courses: Treasury and Working Capital Management, Selling Financial Services, and Foundations of FinTech.
